- Pleated cartridges provide surface filtration. Particles are trapped on the surface. Pleats add surface area, thereby increasing dirt-holding capacity.
- Cartridges manufactureed from cellulose, or a blend of cellulose and polyester, should be used on municipal chlorinated water supplies (city water) only. Non-harmful bacteria commonly found in well water may eventually degrade the cartridge. In municipalities, chlorination reduces these bacteria, making cellulose based cartridges an economical filtration choice for city dwellers.
